From the office of Councilman Guerra: D6 Potential Homeless Shelter Location
December 12, 2018 powerinn
Hello neighbors,

The Mayor has asked each Councilmember to identify locations for either a shelter or efficiency/tiny homes for 100 individuals experiencing homelessness. This space for 100 people could be created out of multiple smaller locations (no smaller than 25 beds) or one large location. With all 8 Council Districts each housing 100 people, for a 6-month period, we would be able to support 1,600 people a year and move one step closer to address our homeless crisis.

These new shelters will operate on a referral basis only, meaning that they will not accept walk-ins. Similar to the North area shelter, neighborhood impacts will be minimal. The FAQ sheet for the shelter can be found here http://bit.ly/NorthShelterFAQ

You should know District 6 has limited location possibilities, and I need your help. Through previous research, there are currently no city owned lots in District 6 that can be utilized for a shelter.

This survey is only our first step on our journey to address homelessness – my office will be hosting community conversations on this important topic at the beginning of the new year. If you would like to participate, please submit your email to ensure you receive updates.

I ask that you please take a moment to fill out the following survey; https://goo.gl/ghvAY5

Sincerely,

Councilman Eric Guerra
